Dear Staff:
I write to share the most recent news we have received from
PROFAMIL, our Haitian Association, which has been working to
improve the lives of Haitians since 1984.
We are deeply concerned because PROFAMIL's acting Executive
Director has severely infected wounds and had to be evacuated
out of Port-au-Prince to receive care. We have yet to receive
feedback from everyone but many of our staff are struggling to
salvage what they can from PROFAMIL clinics in Jacmel and
Port-au-Prince which have been seriously damaged, and to resume
mobile services of first aid and family planning in tent cities
where displaced persons have gathered. We need
your help!

Destruction of PROFAMIL's Port-au-Prince
clinic. Alix, a PROFAMIL driver and other clinic staff helped
rescue some materials and equipment from the rubble. |
Because the damaged clinics are inaccessible, we are urgently
collecting money to mobilize human resources and purchase
supplies, including first aid and medicines. If you have not
already done so, please donate today to help PROFAMIL provide
critical, lifesaving services.
PROFAMILIA, our Member Association in the Dominican Republic,
is setting up a presence in five areas, including Jacmel, that
have yet to receive much-needed assistance. They have also
transferred a Mobile Health Unit to the Haitian border, to serve
the numerous refugees fleeing the country. We are
grateful to our partners on-the-ground who, with your help, are
ready to make a difference.
In the wake of this enormous tragedy, I thank you for your
support and encourage you to spread the word. Please ask your
friends and family to donate to support PROFAMIL.
Donations
can be made on our secure site and 100% of
the money will go directly to PROFAMIL's operations, to get
their clinics and mobile health units up and working as soon as
possible.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Carmen |
