Write a Letter to the Editor

Raise awareness about the threat the situation in Haiti by writing a letter to the editor of your local paper.  If your letter is well-written and timely, there's a good chance it will be printed and that hundreds or thousands of people will be influenced and educated by your words.

How to send your letter:

  1. The more you can personalize this letter to reflect your thoughts and feelings and make it relevant to the people in your community, the more effective it will be.
  2. After writing your letter, look in your local newspaper or check their web site to see if they allow you to send your letter electronically.  If so, you can just email your letter to the editor to the email address they provide.
  3. If your newspaper doesn't accept letters to the editor via email, you'll need to mail or fax it in to the number or address they provide.
  4.  Include your phone number in your letter!  Most newspapers won't print your letter without first calling you and confirming that you wrote it, etc.
  5. Very important!  If your letter gets printed, please drop us an email and let us know!
  6. If your letter gets printed, another good idea is to send a copy of your it to your members of Congress to demonstrate your support for women's rights.
