Ask your senator to commit to sexual and reproductive health
Ask your senator to commit to sexual and reproductive health. On Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed a $410 billion omnibus spending bill, which includes a number of important Family Planning and Reproductive Health provisions. Now, the Senate needs to do the same. Join other fellow reproductive health advocates and partners in asking the Senate to make a commitment to defending sexual and reproductive health and rights AND to pass the bill. Funding consists of $545 million for bilateral and multilateral family planning and reproductive health programs; including $50 million for UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund. These provisions reflect an increase of $82 million, or 18 percent, above the appropriations in the 2008 fiscal year. This funding will support the work of dedicated individuals and organizations to improve sexual and reproductive health services and education, ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every person is free of sexually transmitted infections such as HIV/AIDS and empower women, men and young people globally.
