Decades of research have shown that women living in poverty reinvest any extra income they have in their children, creating a positive cycle of growth for families. Greater economic opportunity for women means their children are more likely to survive infancy, their daughters are more likely to go to school, and their families are more likely to eat nutritious meals. Women with more economic opportunities are also less vulnerable to HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections, have more options in the face of violence or abuse and a greater ability to control the number and spacing of their children.
